say no to nattering

negativity starts battles but rarely wins warsthe presents are opened, and more competent hands than mine are tending to the holiday repast. I’m kicking back, eating christmas candy and skimming the stream. and there it is. the pointing finger, the superior tone.

“your website sucks.”
“you’re doing it wrong.”

selling with negativity. you’re doing it wrong. your site sucks. and your branding? I don’t even want to talk about it. but hey – pay me, and I’ll talk about it all you want. I’ll make a bunch of recommendations and because I’m not a complete charlatan, some will even apply to your industry and maybe your customer base.

why all the negativity in consulting? because it’s easier to convince you that you’re doing something wrong than it is to convince you I can do it better.

once you think you might be wrong, it’s much easier to sell you a fix. if there’s something you are doing right, odds are you’re doing it with your own common sense or with someone who’s not me. I want you to give money to me, not give more money to somebody else. so I’ll take exploratory digs until I hit a nerve – then I’ll ride that sucker all the way to the bank.

here’s a free recommendation for the new year. don’t question your strategy because someone tells you some element of it sucks. ask your customers. test new ideas. have fun.
