in a conference call today, facebook cpo (chief privacy officer) announced the start of testing for several changes having to do with user privacy. a lot of the discussion dealt with the new publisher feature which, when implemented, will let users broadcast status updates to everyone, not just friends. more on that to come.
complicated privacy settings were also featured in the call. exec summ – we know it’s too complicated, and we’re doing something about it. one feature that caught my eye – a unified privacy page. no more roaming around to turn off sharing! 3-cpo (still the chief privacy officer) laid out a three week plan for rolling out the changes to all users; I will post when more details are available. some of the commenters on initial reports feel that facebook is spending too much time addressing concerns that don’t matter to most users. I suspect the changes are designed more with business users in mind than joe sixpack.
