UPDATE: I have updated information here on my posterous blog ‘let’s hear it for the droid.’ please visit for my latest comments on the best twitter clients for the droid
a lot of app developers for the new droid have focused on twitter clients. twidroid is the most popular “unique to droid” app right now, and seesmic has moved aggressively to expand its multi-channel success. I loaded both of them up and tried them out. my personal favorite, however, is a newcomer (at least I haven’t heard of them) called xeeku. the developers at xeeku have created an app that is free, feature rich and a visual treat.
small screen, big need for lists
xeeku was the first twitter client I found in the droid market to handle twitter lists, and not having lists is a deal breaker, especially with the small screen. the picture below shows xeeku’s lists screens (it separates lists, listed and subscribed to).
here’s how twidroid handles lists:
I’ve read that seesmic has or will have lists soon for the droid, but I couldn’t find anything in the app when I was scouting them out. it’s safe to assume that everyone will have list capability soon – especially good news since the new upgrade of tweetdeck lets me transform my lists!
I want pretty
so it comes down to the other big factor – aesthetics. here are the @reply screens (so I could get the same content across all three) for the three apps:
I like the way xeeku leaves plenty of white space and still fits around the same number of tweets. it does it by hiding the toolbar and also the droid status bar above. nice and clean.
xeeku’s main screen features a toolbar that gives access to several areas, including some (trends and saved searches) that the other two don’t offer. I’m still trying to figure out what the gallery section is for…and best of all, it’s free. most of twidroid’s best stuff is reserved for the pro version.
